I may have charts from 8 markets open on my desktop, and given that the indices open at 9:30, crude at 9:00, gold at 8:20, corn at 10:30, and so on, I can get confused as to which charts are in the open outcry session, globex, which are closed, etc....
So, what I'd like to do is have an indicator sort of like the bar timer that will display in a corner of the chart window something like:
You get the idea. I will probably wind up doing this myself, but I wanted to check first and see if anyone knows of such an indicator that already exists.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
That's a really good idea. Have you thought about doing it in Excel or ask a programmer to do it in a separate but small program like a Window widget. This way you could let it float on your desktop. Just an idea.
This is not difficult to code. Just take the bar timer and modify it to display the time until session begin. Maybe you want a female voice telling you "The session for gold futures will open in 7 minutes and 32 seconds" and the chart background turning red at the same time to warn you that the session open is imminent. Or would you prefer an alert to wake you up?
I have an old clock near my computer, on for the few markets I trade, I am perfectly aware of the market open time.
. You can set up to 3 zones with audio alerts and visual displays on your charts, just set the begin and end zones n minutes before start end of session.
That would be too easy. I could modify this indicator, to change colors prior to session begin as well, such as adding a red zone just prior to session begin.
Here is a session timer to play with. You can set the lead time. When lead time is set to 5 minutes, it will turn red 5 minutes prior to the end of the session, which can be the RTH open.
Thanks again FT but I would expected the timer to be customizable for multiple sessions like in CL and adjustable on the chart, if I use a Bar timer it overlays
I was wondering how Ninja knows when a session begins or ends. I know it parses the Session template record for a given symbol but how does it address a particular session if for example there are three sessions defined in the template ?
Do you have commands like ...
if application.session.id = 3 then
or
debug.print application.session.count
Is it that simple, or do you need to define your own function to get this information ?
LOL. It automatically adjusts to the session templates, also to multiple sessions. If you use a bar timer, I could change the position on the chart, for example allow for 4 different positions to choose from.
