Hi Folks,
New here so hello. I am not yet a paying Multicharts customer and don't have access to post on their forum so thought I'd ask this question here..
A seemingly basic question, but how do I combine two instruments on a chart in Multicharts? For example if I wanted to see the gold spot price in swiss francs, I'd multiply XAUUSD by USDCHF. It's not immediately obvious how to achieve this in MC. Adding an intrument via Format Instruments seems to do nothing.
cheers

Yes, add an instrument and it will appear in a new panel.

If it does nothing, then the QuoteManager instrument information is probably wrong. Can you chart the "new instrument" by itself in a whole new chart?

Mike

Hi Mike,

Very strange but on my MC (beta 8) adding another instrument does nothing.
For example I start with a XAUUSD chart, I go format instruments and find and add USD.CHF, click ok etc and it says '1 symbol added successfully' but nothing happens on the chart. I go back to format instruments and only XAUUSD is there. I can chart the instruments independently in the same workspace.

Thanks for having me here on the forum by the way, looking forward to participating.

Clarification, I've just discovered if I use Insert Instrument then I do get a separate pane with the new symbol in the same chart window. But what I am trying to do is divide the data from one symbol by another and show it as it's own chart.

Code
XAU   USD   XAU
--- X --- = ---
USD   CHF   CHF
This is quite easily done in several other programs, possible in MC?

Quick and very dirty solution - add this indicator and use invisible bars on data1 and data2:

Plot1(Close of Data1 * Close of Data2);

Useless if you want to see bars though
