Thank you futuretrader.I have seen some convincing charts in Silver ,Soybeans, and the Stock market showing a good number of swing highs and lows coinciding with Full and New moons.I also have seen a statistical study showing the strongest and weakest 5 day periods of each month regularly coinciding with the Moon's cycle.I have also seen Welles Wilder was selling a Moon-Sun based system called Delta a few years back.It had mixed reviews.I wonder if any members gave that a try and what their experiences were. Thanks again,Mark.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Thanks Dandxg.I'm sorting through all the evidence I can find on Gann.I should not speculate on the integrity and motivations of anyone who interviewed him so long ago.If any members know of a modern, fair, well researched biography on Gann let me know-the book searches I've done turn up mostly works by people selling stuff based on him.Thanks.
Thanks to dandxg.I understand the key point you are trying to convey to me.I have intensively studied price movements for many years, I am able to appreciate the value of the clue you meant to casually drop in my path. You never know where you will meet a good and kind person.Thanks.
I admit that its a laughable concept on the surface... But i'll also say this - I can't pretend to understand the potential implications of stuff like this. What I can say is that I can see where it theoretically could play a role, and while others have said that it can't be proven statistically... My father worked in a VA mental health facility for 30 years and he said that full moon nights just did "something" to the patients almost like clockwork. They even staffed up each full moon night because it was expected that shit would hit that fan, and almost like clockwork each month - it did.
The suicide rates, mutilations, guard assaults, etc... were all MUCH more probable on a full moon.
But again, I can't back this up with any hard data as well, i'm a trader and I couldn't care less.
I guess what i'm saying is - anything is possible. Remember wall street warriors? There was a astrological trader featured in one of the segments as well.
Thank you gio5959.Several members have referred me to your work. Are there any books/services/ in this field you find especially valuable?Any you know of that are a waste of time.I thank you for any advice you have time to give.Mark.
Thanks daedalus. This matches up with what I have heard from many friends in Hospitals and police dep'ts.I just talked to a nice woman who delivers high -risk babies, who tells me she sure gets busy every full moon.Lots of water breaking with women who have pregnancy complications.I'm sure there are official studies that refute this.Right now the official studies saying employment is turning around, etc are really hard to reconcile with what I am hearing and seeing.
That is like saying shirts are bad because you know of a serial killer who wore shirts. It's bringing in a study you don't like to cast a bad light on all studies. Surely you can see that this isn't a rational way to proceed.
Science is open-minded. Science would freaking love some astrological confirmation, so that it could turn this knowledge into technology. All these people have to do, if they are correct, is produce the data.
They just have to count, and write. That's it! If they are correct, and since the moon is above all of us, then hospitals all over the world should show a similar bias. The data would be abundant and overwhelming. But apparently, all over the world, for hundreds of years, no one is inclined to actually count up their full-moon anomalies... all you get is anecdotes. Nearly everyone who does think to tally up occurrences at hospitals finds nothing special about the moon.
Why would you say that is?
The brain isn't what it's cracked up to be. It's a subjective mire full of biases that drag it away from reality instead of toward it. What seems true is often not. Take optical illusions. Like this one: Ponzo illusion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. This is why, if you want to know if two lines are the same length, you measure them... you don't rely on what you see.
Thanks,Richard. Not all studies proceed from bias,I know that.I really can't tell you why the observed experiences of folks I've known don't square with the many different studies showing no effect from the full moon.I did have one long-time ER nurse tell me that it wasn't so much the sheer numbers on Full Moons,it's that they are a lot more interesting, more bizarre, etc.I mean no disrespect to science or scientists, especially science conducted without pressure to find or not find some result.I'm not sure established science would welcome something regarding the moon's effect on humans that threatened the status of current established teaching.Darwin wasn't warmly welcomed, nor in our time was Alvarez acclaimed by large sections of Paleontology when he postulated an asteroid ending the Dinosaurs. As for my brain not processing reality,I have to reluctantly agree with you.At a Styx concert about 1979 I am ashamed to admit to you that I partook heavily of an imported tropical plant substance with such irrational exuberance that it still has my brain entertaining luna-tic notions that careful study has refuted.
