Hello, can someone please explain why Range charts are so different between the
2 platforms? Both pics show Friday Aug 16th with 10 Range bars. The yellow vertical
lines represent midnight. Why are there so many more bars in NT8? I prefer NT8
but I like ToS Range bars better.
Thank you, JM
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I don't have TOS, but the screen-print does not show range bars. It looks more like renko bars. The open of the next bar, should be the same or very near the close of the previous bar. You can see in the screen-print from NT that this is the case, but very different in the one from TOS on opposite colored bars where the open of the next bar is the same as the open of the previous bar. That's not how range bars work, but is what renko bars will look like.
Well that would explain some things. I've used
Renko in NT8, so I got used to their settings.
Apparently I don't know how to setup Renko or Range bars in ToS. Guess I'll plot a Renko in NT8
and see if it looks more like the ToS chart.
Hi there! I have both platforms and I use both at the same time, in separate laptops.
I use NT8 for Futures and TOS for ETFs (SPY / QQQ / IWM/ DIA ) and Stocks. Personally, I have the impression that TOS Market Data is incomplete for futures.
If I would guess, the difference you are seeing is probably related to Market Data.
NT8 can connect to reliable data sources that will pull data from CME. TOS is limited to its own Market Data, which is OK for Stocks and ETFs, but not so OK for Futures in my experience.
I used to not like the range bars in TOS, but lately I have liked them much better. They auto correct for the gaps between bars that Ninja and TradingView experience. There is an indicator (Pay to own) that corrects the gap in NinjaTrader to make them look more uniform. The only thing I still don't like about TOS range bars is that you are limited to how far back you can scroll back, before they start to draw improperly. I chart with TOS and execute trades on NinjaTrader 8 (Futures) and haven't really noticed any major issues.
