Hi,
Anyone trading or traded equities in the past using Ninjatrader 8 as the platform?
I already have NT8 and IB.
I was looking to give it a shot again. Of course, the data is impossible from IB.
I checked Kinetick and dxFeed.
When i checked dxFeed, i noticed they are giving you the data via an Add on, and its Total Book, so L2+ data. They give you an add on window, because NT8 can not do the market depth map for equities. So the add on window is the workaround.
Not sure if anyone has tried this dxFeed solution? And if you have any feedback....there seems to be nobody using this solution on YouTube.
My other option, is again to grab dxFeed, but then pay for the Bookmap Global+. I would then have full depth for equities, but of course, i would be another $100 a month down, and i would need to learn another tool.
Any thoughts or experiences you can share with trying equities from NT8?
Thanks

I use NT with IB and it works pretty well. I find the API to be responsive with little lag between the platforms. I also used to use it with TD Ameritrade, but that worked less well - OCO orders could not be moved after being set, so most trade management had to happen outside of NT, which I found pretty annoying. Then Schwab bought TD and the whole thing stopped working, although the most recent version of NT8 has a beta Schwab connection. I plan to try and connect either today or tomorrow and I'll try to give a quick update if I remember...
For data I use Kinetick. IB data is usable for daily bars, but utterly worthless for intraday, as it seems like you know. TD Ameritrade's data was quite good - even intraday - but I can't say anything about Schwab yet.
No idea about L2 connections...sorry.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop a line.
I also, used NT for trading equities on TDA before the Schwab takeover. So far, I have not transitioned to new NT8.1 and still using NT8.0.27.1 mainly due to having many issues with account migration.
I would appreciate if you post your experience with the Schwab's new beta API, to see if it is even worth making the account migration to the latest NT version.
Hi, got it connected today and my first impression is, well, not great...
I have positions open in ToS but none of them show in NT. I seem to remember this being an issue before - you had to open the trade in NT to see it in the control center.
the connection will give you intraday data, but it doesn't appear to stream (if that's the right word) - you have to reload data for it to catch up.
as best I can tell, no stock symbols are linked to the connection. When you try to load a symbol, you get the "the symbol name for <> is invalid. Check your symbol map" error. You can go in and add the symbol to the Schwab connection, but I'm not sure you can bulk upload/edit these. I'm going to try and look into that tomorrow. Either way, seems like something that they should have thought of, especially since futures and FX aren't supported in NT via the Schwab connection.
I plan to play with this a bit more and if I find anything useful I'll let you know.
Obviously no improvements have been made to the old API. Data availability is the same as before and NT symbol mapping is not consistent with TOS (and other sources), so every inconsistent symbol needs to be individually mapped for TOS, something that NinjaTrader needs to do but leaves them blank in the mapping table. I doubt it if there is a way for bulk updates/edits of symbols.
One more thing, I regularly scan SP500, etc. watch lists using Market Analyzer to identify stocks with certain actionable patterns. I have noticed that these watch lists are missing a large number of newly added symbols and include a bunch of symbols that are no longer a SP500 member. My take is that they do not maintain their default watch lists in the software, so I have been using current lists downloaded for S&P, NASDAQ, etc. indexes. I have written to NinjaTrader about the default watch lists more than once, but as usual they are ever more passive with improvements.
NinjaTrader has no incentives to be suitable to 100% handling Schwab's stocks and ETF trades (I am not sure if even Schwab wants that) since their system is mostly geared to futures. Also, they certainly do not support Schwab futures trading on NT.
In the past, for equities trading I only used NT for my charting analysis using custom indicators, etc. and used TOS to enter, manage, and close discretionary trades. I am not crazy about TOS indicators and charting programmability, but their Options tools are tops, if not the best. I am Looking into Tastytrade as an alternative or backup.
