I've been holding off on upgrading to 8.1+ since it came out - is it stable now?

Pretty much the title. I am still on 8.0.28 and have held off switching as it seemed they still had issues to work out as the first couple of versions rolled out. Two years later and I've been looking at some indicators that seem to require 8.1+ and am wondering if I want to take a chance on messing up my current rock-solid build.

I've been using 8.1.4.1 since shortly after its release. No issues for me at least.

Willphule - I did the same as you: have a rock solid build on .28 and held off ‘upgrading’ to 8.1.3 & 4 until I had tested to my satisfaction on a backup pc. Plus, the introduction of the much-hated forced Login put me off because, as usual, any introduction by NT Developers of anything new to them is usually dismal and fixing it likewise dismal. And so it was - Login server failures, users unable to log in etc and as to be expected anyone else’s fault other than NT, until, invariably, the problem ends up plain to see where it originated - at NT Development’s door when eventually the obfuscation and deflection of responsibility becomes untenable.
(See a post by Lancer on here who puts it far more succinctly than I can. We’ve both fought some of the same battles on NT’s Forum).
When eventually login server problems were fixed, and a User developed a workaround to Save the login pwd, I switched to 8.1.3….

I use a Logitech Gamepad in order to move my mouse around 6x 43” monitors by scripting ‘MoveMouse’ to virtual coordinates. I have used this since early NT7. 8.1.3 breaks it (when any NT Window is in Focus, it stops MoveMouse working).
NT response as expected- it’s Logitech’s or anyone else’s fault, go to them, not on us, we won’t acknowledge or assist. Only NT 8.1.3+ does this, no other version of NT ever, and no other software does this, just NT8.13+. (This was not apparent in testing on my backup pc because I only have 1 monitor hence never tried using MoveMouse)
Firstly, I was asked by ‘Support’ (misnomer if ever there was - well, not ‘Technical’ Support) to submit a ‘Feature Request’. After ‘a few home truths were exchanged’ it was passed to QA as a bug fix (& as is habitual, taken off the Forum).
Having made it clear I am not a developer/coder and have limited skills, I was then given an equivalent MoveMouse script in Python to try. Having got nowhere after 20hrs chasing my tail & learning how to use Python - ‘oh sorry, should have told you you need to install Python and run the script in Python from a Windows CMD line. Yes, you should.
No further forward today, although allegedly a Developer is looking in to it. So I’m still (back) on .28 (after installs and uninstalls)

If you were to go to NT8.0’s Release you’ll see an AMA on here by Brett, Development head, stating how he was aware that the new release brought little advancement for those who use multimonitor setups and the like, a growing NT user base as hardware advanced and prices dropped, and that the much anticipated NT8 may have included some development in this regard. For what you might call the core of NT7 Desktop ‘power Users’. And that Development hadn’t forgotten those users and would be introducing new features soon. Popular examples would be the most basic such as Snap to grid for Window sizing. NOTHING as far as I am aware has been done to enhance usability with multi-monitors since, and now I can’t navigate my large desktop real estate with keyboard instructions any longer.
DISMAL in every regard

So, I would strongly advise you extensively test all aspects of your current rock solid build ideally on a different pc and only then upgrade your trading pc. You may have no problems whatsoever and I hope not. The difficulty is that if you do, there is a high likelihood they will be of Development’s making and a tortuous process will follow taking vast amounts of your time. I don’t intend to rant or preach (too late!) and expect you’re aware of this which is why you ask for feedback.
Well there you go! :-)
Proceed with caution imho born out of long soul-destroying experience
