Hi Aquarian1, I kind of covered it with my Dec 1 comment but I think I was pretty exhausted when I made the first post. My older brothers taught me as a child to delay an unavoidable fight until you know deep inside you have already won. A time-out, saying things out-loud is beneficial hence the post.
We did the eye-tracker/biofeedback assessment that I mentioned and found a few problem areas. Easily fixed and he has became more consistant.
Otherwise, kind of of like Cap Kirk here it was clear that he (remember, late 50s) was rejecting me making it too easy. Even though he knew I was going to be proven correct, he needed to build his own foundation as you term it or as he put it, he needed the pain.
I work 12-14 hours a day 4am to 4-6pm, it has taken time to build the stamina and support systems (behavioral and software) that allow me to stay focused for longer and longer while keeping my GF happy and everything else in life.
It was his words about me "Knocking it out of the park every week". Success is not luck in most circumstances, it is drawn from a lifetime habit of just..not losing. Winning.. meh.. One does not need to be 200% better than a competitor or co-worker, consistently some percent is all that is required over time.
Being a few percent better than ~97% of traders is ...difficult... haha however I doubt it I could have done it in my 20s as though I was far more gifted then, my accumulated skills were insufficiently broad.

For the biofeedback I use a simple CMS-50F pulse-oxymeter which live outputs to my laptop via USB. Good for sleep studies (optimal sleep is critical for performance work) as well as watching that heart rate spike on a live trade or drawdown.
The most obvious take-away beyond screen layouts was that just before entering a trade he switched focus to NT's Chart-trader panel. Checking multiple times if he was Live or Sim and not paying attention to the market for several seconds. Not unfamiliar to me I will admit when fast-scalping.
We changed the Sim101 Chart Trader panel to white (matching live) and his pre-trade anxiety dropped significantly. A totally unscientific theory of mine is his amygdala (which is not consciously controlled by most accounts) was locked into a blue good, white bad pattern.
Of course he made a live trade by mistake pretty quickly but overall its benefiting him.
