What is The best free forex data feed to ninjatrader?
It would be helpful to know what time frames and what bar types you prefer to look at to dteremine if you could "get by" with free data. Second to that and especially in the spot markets the only data that will matter at execution is the data used by your broker. It will not be uncommon in a major pair for the differences at the inside market to be larger than a full pip, sometimes larger than 2 pips.
All that said, for $50 a month you can get the best most reliable data feed that I have ever seen (22 years trading) from Kinetick. Through the CME waiver program you can get CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX for free. I think listed US equity is like $6 bucks.
In my group a number of guys scoffed at the "cheap retail data". I convinced them to try one month running concurrent feeds. Within a week the very expensive "pro" feeds where dropped...by the end of the month they where forgotten. Kinetic data is the best available in my opinion.
I apologize that you are not experiencing the data download speeds that you are seeking with FXCM and NinjaTrader. We are working on a solution for downloading data faster through NinjaTrader. For the time being we have a solution for our live account holders to get data. Please take a look at this post for the step-by-step instructions:
You are right, Mike, the fix for downloading historical data in NinjaTrader has not been completed in a timely manner.
So, heres what we feel to be the best solution. For anyone who has (or opens) an …
Long story short, live FXCM NinjaTrader account holders with over $5,000 balance can get one of our add-on platforms called Historical Data Downloader. This platform provides access to all data that FXCM has, and you can download in various formats, including: NinjaTrader, MT4, or even CSV file types.
I hope this helps and please stick with us as we work on a more permanent solution for you!
Thank you and have a great weekend!

Kinetick uses the FXCM datafeed (a catch-22 situation for the thread starter) and worse you need to add +$25 to the initial $50 to get the same Forex feed which is provided free with a FXCM account.
Forex is particular since it is an unregulated market, so you need to use the datafeed from your broker for accurate trading intraday. There is no way around it, unless of course if you trade longer time frames, then few pips here and there wouldn't matter much.
But also in that case, you can do it with free delayed data, fast or slow wouldn't matter either.
Successful people will do what unsuccessful people won't or can't do!
To be honest, I’m unsure which would be faster, but ultimately the fastest way to have access to the data through NT is keeping the data locally. Using the Historical Data Downloader as mentioned above is one way to do so. Also, NT typically saves any downloaded data locally, so after the initial download, the only delay in accessing the data is your local computer (which should be basically instantaneous). The issue is that NT with FXCM doesn’t (YET!) save the data locally. We are working on this now and hoping to resolve this issue shortly.
I appreciate your understanding with the situation and please give us a little time to put a better solution in place.
Thanks again!
Brad

Data from Kinetick would come from IQFeed's infrastructure. It should max out your bandwidth if the application is properly threaded and makes multiple requests. In other words, it is super fast.
