I am quite impressed with NinjaTrader ecosystem. Evaluated Amibroker, MultiCharts, MetaTrader and others but few packages match NT for development.
The problem with NT is that it is too easy to create new indicators, there is an integrated IDE, just copy a couple lines of code, compile with F5 and done. The issue is you can easily miss performance issues. As a result there are a lot of available indicators and its cool as a trader, but if something is causing issues the tendency is to blame NT when really a badly coded indicator is the culprit.
I am an extremely technical trader, and use the NT8 platform to host a very complex interactive strategy, written in C#, which uses Unmanaged Order Management from a Co-located Dedicated 6 Core Xeon 32gb server in Chicago. Having pushed performance and functionality as hard as possible for 2.5 years now; I can say with some confidence that NT8 is the premier hardcore futures platform.
I just don't like this kind of vertical integration. Trying to create a monopoly on software, brokerage, feed etc is not something I like as an NT customer.
Sierra Charts is an excellent product. I started on NT6 but left when NT8 came out. SC out of the box allows you to do so much. It is super stable. I do not recall a time where it has locked up. I used to have issues with NT, but never once has SC froze or even slowed down.
