They host in Nuernberg. Ignoring server failures the uptime is close to 100%. Or - they are in the same network center I host my main company stuff in and the last 3 or so years I had zero downtime.
is about the best deal I could get in chicago for a dedicated machine. I know - it sounds like too much for hosting a trading system. It is - I would like to have tha bility to pull up a number of virtual machines once it goes life to isolate some separate trading instances.
May give a VPS a chance, though - not sure yet. THis was jsust the result of some market observation. OTOH I Would like to buy my own server, but shipping it to the US would provide to be a damn nightmare (handling taxes and customs mostly).
Explanation: RIght now I run my infrastructure from Nuernberg - I plan moving the trading part to a machine in chicago, backup in my place, and dissolve the stuff in Nürnberg and move it into my basement when building a house ina a year.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
FDC has one of the worst reputations in the business, for allowing spammers, torrents, usenet, and other "problem" applications on their network, and as a result has one of the worst networks around in terms of customer satisfaction. You can check out webhostingtalk for more.
WHich enfoced my point. See, the german counterpart sits on a 100gigabit link set or something like that (last time I checked it was more than 70gigabit and they were upgrading). It has 100% uptime, 3 generators on site, two 100.000 volt lines comeing in from two sites, it is generally seen as one of the best data centers in germany. I rent haf a rack there and I pay quite a price compared to others.
AND they are cheaper.
FDC is the only one I could find that even came close, and you tell me it is a bad quality provider.
I am sure FDC has similar bandwidth and generators. That really isn't important in my opinion, having been with a lot of providers. One provider had multiple power outages due to generator failure. Having generators does not mean they work.
Another provider advertises all kinds of bandwidth, but the problem is due to the type of sites allowed on their lines, it means there was frequent denial of service attacks which caused outages for those on the same switch, even if they were not the target.
You also need to look at the peers. You can have tons of bandwidth but poor peering, and it will not do you any good.
If you want a german co-location provider, you should look for something in close proximity to Interxion/Equinix Frankfurt.
There are a couple of high-quality providers like wusys or rackbase. Do yourself a favor and don't go with hetzner.de - at least for hosting of trading systems!
Read what I said - i never said. I just used german prices to basically poit nout most US based prices are RIDICULOUSLY high for quite low value compared to what german companies offer.
OK, lts go and give me a 5day test of your "gold package" with a german server location... ~200EUR/month its here a cool price... i can compare your IT with my own other 3 servers in germany (1&1 Karlsruhe and Hetzner Nürnberg + Falkenstein/Vogtland)
I dont need 1ms to Eurex, i need "good" connections to my different brokers and dataproviders and a normal fast server harddisk... when i see your hdd size, i think this is only a slow virtual VPS hdd... no problem i well check this.
Oops....we changed our landing pages yesterday. Must have missed this one. Thanks a lot - fixed it!
For our virtual servers we don't use local disks and we also don't use "normal" virtualisation software like Parallels or Virtuozzo. Instead we use a "real" cloud setup, consisting of Xen Hypervisors combined with high-end SANs from NetApp. Performance-like it's not always faster than local disks of "normal" vps servers, but it offers you much better reliability and scalability.
YOu now something - I am actually in the process of setting up a server in the US now, so, I am in your market, but.. NO configuration information and price information onthe website sort of means "no business".
For US i prepare a test of speedy trading servers... i write a crosslink testsoftware for analyse the timings and data transfer capacitys of my current real servers (on hetzner.de and 1&1.de) with gurrilla's and sam's VPS offers.
I open for all, and i well neutral check the advantage of a very good location to one exchange to my up to this time prevered solution a only "good" and nearly equal connection arrond the world for working with my high realtime statistics/patterns with a needed high hdd data transfer for realize a intermaket trigger logic
