Anyone using NT 7 with **multiple** IB accounts though IB's Advisor master account? I'm currently with another broker and have no problem routing orders to several accounts simultaneously using NT 7. Was looking to setup an Advisor account with IB so as to have simultaneous access to both IB trading accounts. When I contacted IB customer service with a question regarding the Advisor account, the customer service rep suggested that I may run into issues when submitting a long/short order simultaneously (long to one IB account, short to the second IB account) when logged in as Advisor. I'm not sure just how knowledgeable the rep was... Anyone have any experience with this type of setup? Thanks.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Not sure you need an advisor account. That may require you to register as a professional, and there may be tax issues associated with that, not sure. But, you should be able to start 2 TWS instances, one with each account, each on a separate port, startup NT, connect to both instances of TWS using 2 different connections in NT, start 2 NT charts and select the desired connection on each chart trader, and then send orders to each TWS account separately from the associated chart. I have not done this, but I think this should work.
I have just set this up through IB. The master account is called "Separate Trading Limit Account" (IB terminology). When I asked NT support how to connect to multiple IB accounts through NT the response was;
. UNIQUE ACCOUNT NAMES
NinjaTrader can connect to multiple different IB accounts that have separate login username and passwords at the same time. To set this up please see the instructions below. In order to do this however, the user must manually start TWS multiple times for each account first in the morning, then connect with NinjaTrader since the auto startup functionality does not work with multiple logins.
Manually start TWS from the desktop, if you have two accounts start it up twice with each account logged in.
When platform has started, Click Configure > API Settings > Socket Port > Provide a unique value. Default is 7496, leave this as is for the first username. Add 1 to this value to be 7497 on the second account so each account has a unique port value.
In your NinjaTrader connection for this account, match the port with what you specify in TWS for each account connection.
Connect in NT using File > Connect, you will do this twice for both account connections.
Note: The Client ID can remain at default setting. Only port needs changing in our testing.
I have been intrested in this kind of setup but for multi broker also. Curently I only have Mirus setup as my broker and for data. The first thing that comes to mind with multiple tws connections remember that there will be additional resource requirements (I know RAM is is dirt cheap now, maybe my head is caught in the 80s) that you should keep in mind the extra RAM that additional tws instances take before setting this up. Just my 2 cents.
