Hello
I am currently using Ninja 7 with EOT pro indicators. since they can now incorporate multiple time frames in Ninja 7, I find it better than 6.5. However, I just got a great set of indicators from another vendor that also uses the machine ID and I wanted to run it off of a virtual machine using vmware desktop running windows xp and ninja 6.5. therefore, I can have both. so, ninja 7 would be on the host, and ninja 6.5 would be on the virtual.
For some reason, even though I gave the 2nd vendor my machine ID generated from the ninja 6.5 running off of my virtual machine on the same computer, it will not work. It just gives a message to email the vendor and obtain a license. The funny thing is that as soon as I run Ninja 6.5 on my host machine, it works fine even though the machine ID is different on the host. I do have an internet connection on the virutal.
Does anybody know why this machine ID thing would not work off of a virtual machine? Maybe it is just with vmware? I am going to try virtual pc and maybe even virtual box, but vmware is supposed to be the best.
it is not like I activated it on one computer and moved it to a different one where the hardware is different. The vendor actually installed it on my computer via remote connection and saw the machine ID was exactly the same----it was just off of a virtual machine.
anyway, now I have to go back to using EOT pro on ninja 6.5 in order to use the new indicators which I really did not want to do because Ninja 7 filters are way way better for EOT.
any feedback much thanks
Spencer

Hi
Hi James. I am manual trading live and everything is licensed with EOT and another company. Tradewerks, are you saying you have indicators that are checked each time on startup and you run it through a virtual machine?
I think there are different ways to use the machine ID. EOT I dont think checks it the same way and there was a time when I could run both EOT on virtual machine and host computer. but now they changed their security and I cannot run it on the virtual machine----all fields are unknown
the but it does not give me a message like the other indicators. www.scalpersoftware.com for example checks it on their server and that is what I think this other company does. so I guess my question is why doesnt vmware communicate with my cpu or motherboard or whatever piece of hardware that is generating the machine ID. because everything is licensed and therefore should work.
maybe enabling something in ACE? anyway, this stuff sounds like some high tech stuff. James I am sure you know something about this since you use virtual machines:-) how is everything with you? how is trading? still with EOT?
I don't know what's wrong with your vendor license (for me the problem is not caused by the VM, and external license server is unable to know if it's a VM or a physical machine asking for a license), but if you want to have NT 6.5 and NT 7 running on the same machine, you just have to rename one of the .exe (rename the NT 7 NinjaTrader.exe to NinjaTrader-7.exe for example).

Hi Sam028
wow, that simple solution solved my problem. it is funny how once we are told we cant do something that it becomes the truth. I never even thought of renaming the files and I am so surprised that I never heard of that before. Thank you for thinking outside the box and sharing it:-) lots of smart people here which is why I come here:-)

Thanks Lolu. my point is that since I heard so many people say you cant run both at same time, I never searched for a solution because it was not on my mind. my original post had to do with virtual machines. but something simple came out of it that i was not looking for. Serendipidy:-) so it reminded me to always question so i can search for whats possible. thats all.

To anyone who is running both NT6.5 & NT7: How do you handle data since most providers will not allow two simultaneous connections, even if from the same machine? Is it possible to bridge data feeds between two NT installations?
