I didn't read all answers here but this is a top answer and you can be sure that sugar are the cause of a LOT of disease and body problems and the bad thing is that it is EVERYWHERE.
I think that the only way to keep eating good over the long period is to, for example, eat good and healthy during the week days and leave the EXTRA concession for the weekend! By this way you'll have your satisfation during the weekend and you can re-start the week eating good. Having this sort of equilibrium is not so easy.
I go to the gym 5 days a week but sometimes I still find difficult to stay with a healty diet expecially during the winter. For example I alway eat perfect meals... the problem is what I eat AFTER the meals
Breakfast and lunch are easy for me... the problem is the after dinner.. I always search something sweet... so during the winter you can go with biscuits, chocolates and similar... but it would be better a fruit, watermelo, peach... whatever natural instead of industrial sweet food...
So there's not big secrets behing an healthy DIET: you just have to eat a lot of vegetables, fresh fruits, chicken... red meat SOMETIMES ... potatoes and raw cereals as carbo sources and with moderation cheese and milk.. but with a LOT of moderation....
I think the problem is DOING what I said above and AVOID all the WONDERFUL rubbish that advertisement show us every day.. eh eh
Remember: if something is good, maybe very good then it's probably unhealty ehehe
I highly recommend Athlean X on youtube, he's former NY Mets trainer and Physical Therapist, he trains professional athletes not body builders. Good resource for exercises, injury prevention, and stretching

Preservation of capital is the most important concept for those who want to stay in the trading game for the long haul. - Van Tharp
Many people relate to food in a complete backwards @$$ way. What is food? Primarily it is fuel for your body. Sure...it is also true that it is one of life's great pleasures, and that meals are a way we gather and socialize w/ family and friends...but that's not every damn meal.
Unfortunately for most people food is an addiction, a cure for boredom, emotional support, etc....not fuel. Peoples choices about what goes into their mouth are not based on what is best/most nutritious...it generally comes down to mouth pleasure.
I'm not trying to be condescending, much the opposite, I think I really have a sense of how difficult it is to change if you're an adult who's been obese your whole life. To really "cure" the problem once and for all, it would mean a complete lifestyle change. Most, even if they have the discipline, don't even know where to begin, and when they try to figure it out all they find are people trying to sell them something.
Nail on head with the way you put it @John47. If genuinely for 'fuel' and not stimulation...
what this translates to for me anyway is: focus more on foods that are alive, that still have life in them to give over to your body, instead of trading that aspect for those with more 'shelf' life and convenience.
And chew til there's nothing left to chew.
Simple, not easy, as the saying goes.
As I got older I never let myself get overweight. I think that’s important because the weight is harder to get rid of, the older you are. And in the last year and half I’ve really taken my diet and exercise to a whole new level.
There’s really nothing new to write about diet. I don’t do fad diets or fasting, and I don’t count calories. I have no idea how many calories I consume a day. Like was said earlier, eat stuff that is/was alive and just keep it simple. For me that’s lots of fruits and vegetables, eggs, fish, chicken, nuts, whole grains. Avoid processed foods, refined sugar, stuff that’s high in sodium. Sodas. Cookies. Alcohol. It’s Friday night and I’ve had a grueling week at work. It was very satisfying and very rewarding financially. I’d love to have a beer while I relax but I deny it. My rule is no booze Monday thru Friday. I’ll tie a couple on Saturday night, and maybe another Sunday afternoon. Most days all I drink is water and unsweetened almond milk.
I’m big on substitution too. Fruit for candy and dessert. Nuts for chips. Mashed fresh avocado for sauces and dressings.
Diet is more important than exercise, but my exercise regimen is pretty high level. 4-5 days a week I’m doing kickboxing, Krav Maga, or Spartacus tabatas. My home workout area is an outdoor screened-in porch. It’s more like a cell block than a gym, and that is by design.
