Hello, As most traders in the know, know, the market open and close times are usually important, sometimes very important, when it comes to putting on trades.
From a psychological standpoint, a trader having their first trade of the day be a big loser or a big winner, or having a series of big losers or winners can influence the traders day quite a bit. Or if a trader makes it a habit of trading at the market open each day, and gets killed each day and doesn't see the possible connection...
I tried to come up with the futures market open and close times, but I think I got a couple of them wrong.
If anyone wants to contribute to this list by making any corrections to the times that are incorrect, that will be helpful to all members here.
Just PM me or reply to this post with the corrections needed then I will update the times above.
Thanks,
Futures Market Open/Close Times - DST - (Corrections needed):
Those are just US market times. Futures are traded 23 hours a day and depending on the future will trade more or less during different markets. Gold does very well during Asia and London for example.
So if I understand correctly, for the CL, the market open would be 6:00 pm EST and the market close would be 5:00 pm EST, is that correct?
If so, something significant happens in the CL and other energies at 9:00 am each morning and at 2:30 pm every afternoon, that has nothing to do with the market open or close.
And for the ZN, the market open would be 6:00 pm EST and the market close would be 5:00 pm EST, is that correct?
What about for the 6E, I am pretty sure I have those market hour times wrong?
The Indices, such as the ES, always have significant market action at the open of 9:30 am EST and also around the close. Ignoring that US market open time can be disastrous for any futures day trader.
And I have seen the US market open and close for the energies also has significant price moves, and I assume the same is true for other markets.
That being the case, why would I not want to trade based on U.S. market times, regarding the market opens and closes, if I live in the U.S.?

Don't forget that although the ETH session is about 23 hours a day, the most liquid hours are still
strongly linked to the normal working hours of NY and Chicago. I.e.: Liquidity regularly is U-shaped
with peaks at the start and at the end of the classical NY/Chicago RTH sessions.
