the ComboBox has other event handlers that might work as well, but SelectedIndexChanged seems fine.
Take a look at the help file/dictionary under RecalculateException.

what you describe with the plots...

what you describe with the plots changing color going forward only is expected behavior. A better solution might be throwing a recalculation exception when the combo box value changes....
