I don't know which is better but I like gmail. I have very few problems with it. I've never used hotmail. However, my wife uses hotmail and she doesn't have any problems to speak of either. So, I guess what it boils down to with this vast dataset of 2 is which one has features you want that aren't available in the other one.

Here is a vote for Gmail I can integrate all my Mac stuff with google. Calendar, contacts, and all will
show up on your Android or iPhone.

I have to agree about google. I use google for several things besides gmail and it's doing everything I need so far.

Stupid question - why do you need to change your email address if you physically move? Sounds like more pain than gain to me with having to setup the new account, add all your contacts, etc. Sorry if I misunderstood your situation.

I would bet the OP has his email account with the internet provider in his area... which is what most people end up doing if they didnt know any better ...
