Hi there folks, I recently bought a hypnosis program specifically tailored to trading from Hypnotictapes.com.
I only received it a few days ago and I'm quite impressed with the way it's put together.
I used some more general hypnosis mp3s throughout the summer last year quite extensively and not long after I had some breakthroughs with my trading. These were general sessions for Positive Thinking, Confidence, Success etc.
I'm no expert on the subject but James Schmelter of hynotictapes uses an approach that combines hypnosis, subliminal suggestion and sleep learning techniques that looks quite interesting.
I'll use it as directed for a month, and report back here on the results...

All - I got interested in exploring various avenues from @Gary 's original thread and have a couple experiences to share.
I'm not a very good candidate for hypnosis (I think) - I don't seem to go into a trance state very easily. But I have had some success with what I would term "suggestion". I purchased a program from kenneth reid - it has two parts (he says three but its effectively two). One is a guided exercise (visualization and breathing) that works on reducing the impact of negative emotions on your trading - sort of letting go of your attachment to and energy around past mistakes or past negative emotional experiences in trading. The other part guides you into a relaxed state and then has 30 or so "suggestions" that model proper attitudes towards trading and a good trading "mindset". His trading "philosophy" is a bit different then mine in that he believes that beginning or unsuccessful traders should focus on a high %win (for purely psychological reasons having to do with confidence) and not worry too much about big winners - so a couple of the suggestions involve reinforcing taking profits quickly to boost %win (this is the part I'm not in agreement with although I do recognize the positive psychological benefits of having a high %win).
I've been listening to these recordings every day and I find that sometimes I fall asleep during them, sometimes I'm just not fully focused on them, but sometimes I'm zeroed in, I relate emotionally to the exercises, and they seem to really help shape my attitudes and this spills over into my mindset when I'm trading.
I'm going to continue to work on them and hope to get better at incorporating the positive attitudes into my mindset so they're there WHILE I'm trading. I've also explored some other similar products (trading mind and similar) and I find that the content of the suggestion is not to my liking. In light of this I'm exploring creating my own suggestions and incorporating them into a relaxation and guided imagery exercise through mixing mp3s together. I need to find a girl with a sexy voice to do the suggestions for me (you laugh but personally I think this will help).
Anyway - thanks to all for these discussions. I'm curious to hear if others have had experiences (positive or negative) with these guided imagery and suggestion exercises.

Many thanks for a great post! -high quality and thoughtful.
In other reading the idea of a "trigger" - could be word, image etc. is used. (I recall Anthony Robbins use of this in his techniques and of course stage hypnotists use it "When I say bluebell you will be a bird and make tweeting sounds")
So when you are in low anxiety state and doing your suggestions and imagery perhaps one of them them could be a pairing of a trigger word or image. For example, if your suggestion is

Once I enter the trade I will be totally relaxed and confident.
I will see the trade going in my direction.
I know my analysis is sound and that my pre-trade review was solid, and so I will achieve my target for this trade with minimal or zero heat.
My state is totally relaxed and confident.
I see the trade going perfectly.
I see my profits piling up dramatically.
I feel the joy and exhilaration of success.
By saying the word "Sweet!" I will instantly be in the relaxed and confident state I an now in.
At any time that I wish to easily and instantly be in this state, I need only say "Sweet!" and I am there.
I now say the word "Sweet!" and enjoy the pleasant relaxed and joyful state that is mine to command.
"
LOL I had exactly the same thought! I think you are very right!
Not silly at all!
(see also Napolean Hill - Think and grow Rich, and, Grow Rich with Peace of Mind for more on this.)
I found it really really helpful, in terms of giving me confidence and focus to trade and in attenuating irrational fears. It's quite intensive in the sense that if you were to do every part of the course it would take up a lot of time so I stopped after a couple of months but I do go back and use it. He really knows his stuff, many times when I have used the hypnosis I have started it then suddenly I "come to" and I'm at the end. That's the sign that you went really really deep. I wasn't a discretionary trader but I would imagine it would help with that if you persisted with it. I'm moving into a new phase with my trading whereby it looks as if it will need to be discretionary based trading so I'll most probably start to use it a bit more soon.
It's helps with the mental side, I can't say I saw an actual results with my trading because I didn't. The strategy I traded up until August this year left me at breakeven, and when I saw the futility in continuing to trade a strategy that didn't work, I stopped.
I should be in a position to start trading again, perhaps this month, if not December. I need to properly assess my new idea for a strategy.

I's very much enjoying this series. Its pretty funny as well. He does a great job of how the emotions over time take over the brain from about 30 years old.

Thanks all for sharing. I guess we all eventually come to terms with reality of what's not working on the mental side of the house in terms of our trading. It takes time to come to terms and figuring out how to work thru it.
I just started a program called Mind Muscles. I'm in module 2 it goes over self awareness and it goes into self hypnosis. I think hypnosis will work if you just roll with it and submit to it, but it doesn't stop with hypnosis, you have to put in effort as well and modify your behavior. We shall see how it goes from here. Thanks again for starting this thread.
I once tried Ericksonian Hypnosis. It's a type of very light hypnosis, they induce a sort of trance in which you are in a semiawake and then they tell you some sentences to reinforce habits or break bad habits.
You are also given a recording with the sentences that the hypnotherapist read during the session, so that you can hear them later for weeks or months until they enter your subconscious mind.
In my belief, in these areas people instinctively know what's right for them.
It's not for everybody - bot for those who are open to subconscious work (be it hypnotherapy, NLP, PSYCH-K which is my personal favorite - or any other similar modality) it has the power to help you create great changes, both in your life and your trading. I've seen it myself (on me and on others) numerous times.
A point worth mentioning (again - from both my personal and my professional experience in this field): It is important to come with the right attitude.
Some people come with a passive, "please fix me" attitude. No good. They typically don't "walk the walk" and eventually move nowhere.
This is your journey. The modality is just a tool. Used in context of an aware, conscious journey of self-discovery and growth it can be awesome and definitly help you break some glass cielings - as long as you are the one doing the breaking.
