The process of becoming a successful electronic trader comes with a price and that is our health. Aside from the psychological demons we all face on a daily basis , many of us have become hermits if we weren't already and with that comes a lack of attention to our health.
Some of us due to to lack of funds as we are learning, or lack of time as we lose focus on this important aspect of our lives avoid fresh air and exercise, buying and preparing healthy foods and breaking habits that are detrimental to our trading and lives in general.
Perhaps with some collective knowledge and/or motivation from forum participants we can find ways to make some positive changes in our health and in our trading, by sharing simple ways to get the blood flowing again , air circulating, and bellies full with some healthy recipes that are cost effective ("cheap").
I have been thinking about this lately and am motivated today by an 88 year old track star who took up running at the age of 70
Food prices are rising, and surely many here have some interesting ways to shop and cook etc...
Some of us don't like running or can't and have ideas and knowledge of simple and safe techniques to help others make some positive changes ....
One of my struggles has always been smoking, I have an electronic cigarette in the box for some time and am going to start using it , I have tried it and am impressed , it's a lot better than I thought it would be.
I need to lose a good 60 lbs and am starting today.
I'm sure many of you have thoughts and ideas and would be nice if you shared them.
Thanks have a great day!

Pretty much the same story here..but I only need to lose about 15 lbs. I enjoy bicycling though I haven't done that much this year. Maybe your between your thread and my friends bugging me I will get off my butt.
At the prop. chat yesterday they were mentioning that " Mississippi Named Fattest State" with people out of work and the economies around the world hanging by a thread people become depressed and lethargic. I don't want to be a statistic so time for change ... I don't think anything is more time consuming and draining than learning to trade, so this logically shooooould be a "piece of cake", no pun intended.... hopefully we will get some motivation and keep it going
"NEW YORK (MainStreet) —America’s waistline just keeps getting bigger.
According to a report from the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, adult obesity rates increased in 16 states in 2010 and did not decline in any state.
Now, 12 states have obesity rates above 30%, compared to four years ago when only one state had an obesity rate above that percentage.
I just went to the dentist for the first time in 4 years
and the dentist said my teeth were white and damn near perfect.
No cavatites....I couldn't believe it.
I chewed tobacco off an on since I was in high school and I'm 27 now.
I've always brushed twice a day, flossed almost daily and now
I use mouth wash. They did an oral cancer screening as well
and I'm good to go.
They say the health of your mouth is a big indication of your overall health.
I started lifting weights over 4 years ago and went from 145 to 182 (5'10") in 3 years.
I've taken almost 2 years off and have dropped back down to 165. I gave
back 50% of what I gained but I know I can stack the muscle back on.
I'm giving it another go slowly but surely. When I do things, I push it to the max.
I'm an ectomorph with a very high metabolism so I have to eat a lot
of food to put on weight.
health is an individual responsibility and like anything else requires our own effort to be taken care off... just because you seat in front of a screen a number of hours per day, doesnt mean that you need to be obese or overweight or otherwise unhealthy... specially since taking care of one's health mainly involves two things... 1) the quality of the fuel we consume, 2) the amount of quality exercise we provide our bodies.
if you eat crap, your health will crumble down and you will gain weight quite fast... it has nothing to do with being a "trader" but all to do with ones lack of ability to self-control and the society we live in where we are provided rather low quality food... not amount of exercise will help you when your fuel is low quality.
if you dont exercise, and I dont mean walking at a very, very, very slow pace (though it is better than sitting there doing very little clicking on a forum or watching the tele)... anyhow, if you dont exercise, then the machine named your body will start failing due to inefficient functioning... the body excels to certain degree when stressed (just not when overstressed).
so combine those two things, and regardless of whatever job you have... if you dont take care of what you consume and what kind of exercise you do... very quickly (not always right away) your health starts declining.
Actually, I would think that being a trader and having self discipline (in theory) would aid on your eating right and exercising properly to get your heart beat going and your muscles moving... again, not at a very, very, very, slow (turtle) pace which though might burn calories, is not stressing ones body IMO and therefore not increasing ones metabolism.
as a disclaimer, I am not a doctor... so take what I say with a grain of salt... and I am by no means referring to you in specific when I use you or yours terms.. but everyone in general (including myself).
that must of have been a very, very long cleaning for your teeth... specially since even though one might floss daily, and brush twice a day... plaque and tartar builds up... since it is only reduced by what we do, not eliminated..
have you dropped some of weight that showed during the interview? curious to know if the slow walking pace worked for you and to what extent.
Personally, I prefer to do things differently... I do weights with 50% of my max, 15-20 reps and 30 seconds rest adding one rep every week and then once maxed out on reps I increase the weight a little (so the body continues to work) and I work all my main muscle groups (legs, back, arms) every day and then I run in intervals... slow, then fast... and other days fast, then slow... for 45 minutes... so High/Low Intensity Interval Training and I do nothing on weekends... it might seem extreme, but it really isnt.. I am never sored because I am not overstressing my muscles and I stick to form.. so my joints are not impacted as much...
I did tried your method a while back (last year I think) when I was trying to maximize my time and make it more efficient, but I found that though I was burning calories, it was doing very little for my health... my heart was not being worked, and neither were my muscles.. to me that was ineficient.. so curious as to the impact it has made on you reducing your weight to more healthy levels.
Hey, I'm not a writer, I am a trader/investor - but if I was on a billiards forum, I probably would have said , "we as billiards players" , it's not to infer that being a trader is a cause
