In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first computer with a hard disk drive (HDD).

The HDD weighed over a ton and stored 5 MB of data.

Yeah my first hard drive was for my Tandy 1000, it was a 20MB drive and was on a "hard card" slot. My parents paid almost $1000 for just the hard drive upgrade. This was somewhere around 1985.

Later when I started my own BBS, I was running it off MFM and RLL drives on AMD 386/40's (had three of them, my BBS had 9 nodes and was running DesqView and PCBoard). This was somewhere around 1992.
