I'm an attorney and despite all the lawyer jokes, it's rare to find humor in the material we have to read. So when something like the attached comes out, it makes waves.

This is an actual court order entered by a judge who was fed up with the tactics of some attorneys he felt were wasting his time. Keep in mind that federal judges have lifetime appointments, so unlike most of us, they're free to say whatever they want.

I do not have a lifetime federal appointment and I pretty much say whatever I want. My read on this is that the judge is requiring the parties to show up. Is that for a regular proceeding (the notice is the lesson) or is he really going to shcool them?

The attorneys are definitely in for a scolding and will be required to show up to receive their punishment in person. The sarcastic tone is what really makes this though. Most judges would just say to show up at a certain date and time to discuss the pending motion.
