Recently I've been receiving a lot of new requests for coaching. As the site grows, so is this responsibility.
So, I wanted to update this thread with a few key points to save myself some time repeating them in emails to students.
- Coaching is free. Any VIP member can be a student.
- I am not perfect nor do I pretend to be. My benefit to you as a coach is about my experience, me holding you accountable, and me helping you realize your own goals.
- You must have some experience. If you do not know how to use NT, haven't traded live cash before, don't know common chart patterns and common trading styles, then I am not the right fit for you. Think of me as a "Level III Coach", you need to work your way up to me just like you fight your way through Tech Support on the phone from "Level I", to "Level II", and finally "Level III".
- You must be serious. I will ask you to put forth the time it takes to make yourself a successful trader. This involves a lot of marking up charts, a lot of emails. If you find it too much work, please don't waste my time.
- You must have a journal in futures.io (formerly BMT). It's up to you on how much detail is revealed in your journal (we can discuss privately), but you must have one and it must be public. I encourage you to post a lot of detail in the first several posts, outlining your trading style, entry/exit rules, daily/weekly goals, strengths and weaknesses, and a few example setups. The journal is crucial to accountability, and accountability is crucial to allowing you to see what needs to be changed.
- As the coach, I am there to point out things I see and give advice based on my experience. I am not there to tell you what chart to trade, what instrument, when to enter or exit, etc. I will help you reach these decisions on your own.
One of the best ways I've found to equate coaching is to equate it to a Personal Trainer. If you want to lose weight and hire a personal trainer, chances are you will have better results. Why? Because the PT has the experience, and gets to know your strengths and weaknesses, identifies them, and helps you play to your strengths and minimize your weaknesses.
Think of it like a PT getting to know your habits. By doing so, they can customize a certain plan just for you that stands the best chance of helping you reach your goal. In addition, you have accountability to the PT because of the relationship that develops. You don't want to disappoint him, so you make better and smarter decisions about your food intake and workout routine, which in turn help you lose weight and reach your goals.
If you want me to take you on as a student, do the following:
1- Start the journal.
2- Email me at [email protected]. The subject line must include your forum username. The body needs to include a link to your journal. The rest is up to you.
Do not email me for other reasons guys, I'll ignore you, please understand.
Once the above is done, we'll go back and forth and make sure I am up to speed with your general method and such. Then each day, you'll send me a chart(s) and mark them up to show why you entered, and why you exited, for each trade. You can post this in your journal if you wish, otherwise it will be in email to me. You must send me this for every trade/every day. If you skip sending it to me on bad days, you are not being honest to yourself (or me).
Why do I make you do this? a) It helps you focus. b) It helps reduce overtrading, a #1 problem for traders losing money. c) It helps you recognize patterns.
I'll then respond back and we'll work together to set some new short term goals to improve those results (even if they were winners).
So, in the end, it is not much work. But I've found that traders who aren't willing to do this are just a waste of my time. Sorry to be blunt. Traders who are willing to do this are at least trying. And I've been there, and I needed some help, and I couldn't find it and had to do it on …
