TradeStation is the slowest of just about anything.
I've heard people say MultiCharts is about 4x faster than Tradestation.
NinjaTrader is roughly the same speed as MultiCharts, so also about 4x faster than Tradestation.
On top of that, MC and NT have genetic optimizers so you don't need to do an exhaustive optimization, saving huge amounts of time.
Tradestation acquired Grail last year, so I would imagine they will be coming out with some really great backtesting and optimization stuff soon, integrated with TS.
