i will dig a tad deeper here in a bit.. i just noticed the account balance that was listed for the end of the 1st year listed and it didnt seem right.. so i looked at my statements for the end of the year last year and its off.. but all the stuff on the overview tab is correct..
would it be because my journal splits it into 2 years right now, as i have trades this year? i also took that end of year balance on year 1 and added it to what my net is for this year on the year 2 table and thats off too for my over all balance..
on a good note, on year one if i dont look at the end year balance and take the net row and add it to my initial balance that # is correct.. so maybe it is just the account balance that is off..
dont believe anything you hear and only half of what you see
If it's correct on overview, it somewhat eludes me...the account balance is drawn directly from journal tab column AS...could you perhaps also compare to pivot table sheet?
do you think this has to do with that pesky error from earlier when importing from a 3.0 journal as mentioned on the previous thread page and me saying im going to end up doing this:
should i just do that now and see if all these issues clear up? and if i should do that, what/how should i copy things over since so much has changed..? i really only need my instrument list, the journal and methods..

Hard to tell, but it might be connected... though that's a wild guess at best...
It might be some error in the data of the old journal rather than a formula error (although I am probably quite well known for them)
:puke:I hate it when I don't understand an error...
Probably is worth a try, but will likely end with the same result...
Only copy what you need, not a single cell more, but:
1. you will have to import that then into a fresh one to fix the formatting
2. theoretically you should end up with the same result, so if there is an error in your records, it is highly likely that you copy it as well (the only cells being migrated on journal tab are the ones with user input values...)
3. you have to c/p while macros are turned off, otherwise the journal will keep re-protecting once you click into a cell...
ok thread readers, @vvhg and i had an idea about adding a tab to the journal that would provide a simple table of stats laid out in a nice easy to read fashion so that people who run journals on this site can easily post a screen shot of instead of having to write it all out. this tab would be a daily, or weekly report or maybe a user selectable date range.
anyways i wanted to ask @Big Mike since he is a big proponent of users keeping a journal here on futures.io (formerly BMT), what he would like to see in this report, what are the essentials. also i would like to ask others who read this forum, thread, and use the journal what they would like to see. this also includes what features they would like to see. i thought of one. where we would show the account balance(prolly somewhere at the end of the report) we could have an user selectable option to hide the balance for privacy reasons..
looking forward to your input.
thanks,

I'll need to take a look at the newest version and see what it has. Can someone post one with some sample trade data, just so I can see the metrics/analysis working? Then I'll give input.
But I can tell you already, that you guys are already doing an excellent job. I would focus on simplicity as well --- an unused journal is not going to help anyone.
Thanks, @Big Mike. Can I pm you the latest version with some sample data? How many trades do you need in there?
I already have an idea how that tab could look like. Ideal would be automatic generation of a table showing the trades of the last day/month/specified time period and the totals for that period...
