Dear fellow traders,

Do you have some experience with ProRealTime for real-time tick-by-tick data (FOREX and futures)?

Their website: ProRealTime : Real Time Technical Analysis Software

I am performing some tests and, for futures (FESX, ES, etc.), the tick-by-tick data seems to be of the same quality as eSignal, which is my current data feed.
Their FOREX tick feed seems also good.

ProRealTime seems cheaper than some competitors.

I like their charting software.
But, apparently, data cannot be used by another software (as NinjaTrader, MultiCharts, etc.).
And their software cannot be connected to a broker. So trading requires to place orders in another software (broker's software or platform connected to broker, etc.).

Thanks in advance for any feedback or comment.

Nicolas

I used it few years ago, and that was quite bad, I didn't find why people use it.
The software is slow (Java), the programming and backtesting are very limited, that was maybe a good piece of software 10 (15 ?) years ago, but not anymore.

Hi @sam028 ,

Thanks for your feedback. Merci

It is still written in Java, but it does not seem slow to me at all.
But it is true that I am just displaying one instrument, and not a bunch of 200+ quotes.
I have put eSignal and PRT side to side with ES 2000 ticks live (picture below, eSignal on left and PRT on the right) and it goes the same. I am also comparing them side to side on ES 50 ticks live (1 bar per second roughly): they seem absolutely synchronous.

"the programming and backtesting are very limited": Well noted!

Thanks again,

Nicolas

I believe they white label it to organsiastions such as 'IG Markets' for trading instruments like CFD's etc.

CFD | CFD Trading | CFDs | Forex

I have a play account with IG and occasionally get offers from ProRealTime to look at their own product.

It s a long time I ve been using prt for eod charts, and I am too lazy to look for alternatives. PRT eod is completely free. I tested real time demo too. I do not think the software is slow because it is developed in Java. Java is multi platform and is a robust code. The true is that PRT is not really advanced for real time charting, especially futures. And it is expensive (in euro).

Thanks for your answer @Silence Exp

You wrote "The true is that PRT is not really advanced for real time charting, especially futures."
May I ask you which charting feature is missing or flawed according to your experience? And why especially for futures (versus FOREX or other)?

Thanks again,

Nicolas

@Silence Exp,

If you allow me another follow-up question...
With respect to prices, why do you feel ProRealTime is expensive for RT data?

I have tried to compared ProRealTime and DTN IQ Feed, which is often referred to as a serious feed by NexusFi (formerly BMT) participants.
For this comparison, I have used the quotations publicly available on the 2 Web sites.
(Note: I have never been a client of any of them)

Scope: EUREX futures RT tick data + FOREX RT tick data (without order book)

Hypothesis: 1 Euro = $1.3

Monthly fees without tax:
- DTN IQFeed: $132 (basic service $65 + RT International Futures $25 + EUREX $17 + FOREX (basic) $25)
- ProRealTime: 103.90 Euro = $135 (licence without discount 24.90 E + EUREX futures 30 E + FOREX 49 E)

It seems to be of the same order of magnitude.

Is there some hidden cost at PRT?
Or are they expensive for other markets? (UPDATE: for instance, they seem expensive on CME futures, probably because they do not have the waiver)
Or do you compare them with other feeds you know?

I would like to underline that I do not challenge at all your assessment.
I just would like to better understand it, and consequently better understand the pros and cons of the product.

Thanks in advance,

Nicolas

Ninjatrader with demo license: $0
IB (filtered data) with the same symbols: $10 to $25 maybe ?
Kinetick (unfiltered): I don't know, but cheaper than IQFeed I presume

PRT datafeed is maybe good, but you can't compare the software itself with modern software, NinjaTrader, SierraChart, MultiCharts, ..., are far away from PRT, they are not playing in the same field.

Hi Nicolas. First of all ... I love PRT. It's the platform I know better for charting End-of-Day and it's a long time I use. I could also pay for eod service if they will ask. I think their eod service is one of the best in the market, and I appreciate very much they keep it always free. I love PRT guy for this When I said 'not really advanced' I would say the backend not the front. Where are the PRT servers located ? Did you test it in a very volatile and nervous market ? I tried the real time by demo that's true. But the data flow stuck often during F_DAX open and F_CL pit session time. Mini Russell test was simply a nightmare. I think is enough for me Ninja DE in live trading is far better as stability and flow, and the cost is 0 (zero). However the source of data is the same, charting, dom, excutions came from the same server of your broker, I know this ... but this is not really a problem for me, at least since 2007-2008. Maybe before was, but not now. Futures electronic market is well regulated and clear, and I could never never say to have lost money for bad (or apparently filtered) data feed.
I am sorry not to be fine with Forex (spot) to answer. :-)
