We're always hearing that during lunch time markets become much more quiet.
My question is, which lunch time, Chicago or New York?
What is usually the lunch length period? 30 minutes? 60 minutes? 120 minutes?
If you merge Chicago and New York lunch periods and you establish a period of 60 minutes you end up having 120 minutes, between 11am and 1pm (Chicago time).

Bots are now most of the volume in the markets and they don't eat lunch. So I don't think there is really any difference in lunchtime activity like in the old days.

Although I agree with your statement there are days where midday you just fell asleep looking at the market. Look at ES for the last 30 minutes or even 60 minutes. On these days I've been saying that this is due to lunch time but then you have those days where you have really nice tradable swings at this same period.

When I first started in the markets, lunch time was a big deal .... but then again... back then you had to call your broker to place a trade ... and if you wanted to see intraday prices.... you drove over to his office to watch the streaming stock ticker ... and you could impress your friends by reading the Stock Market section of the Wall Street Journal in front of them....
