Can someone please explain and demonstrate how to calculate $ on the ZN? This is the first time I have ever traded an instrument that deals with fractions. I have googled for hrs now and only get the same "spec" info for the zn which so far has only served to confuse me even more. I know 1 tick is equal to $15.625 and that is it. I know it is probably going to be something real simple but please understand I tend to make things harder at times

It is listed in 1/64 fractions. Price goes from 000 to 315 (a total of 320) in increments of 5. So:

116'000 <example entry, flat>
116'005 +1 tick
116'010 +2 ticks
116'015 +3 ticks
..
..
116'310 +63 ticks
116'315 +64 ticks
117'000 +65 ticks

Hopefully I got the math right there lol

What makes things more interesting is Ninja does the conversion for charting and DOM, but all the indicators and such paint in decimals so if you have Price Markers turned on or use NinjaScript strategies then it can be "fun".

Mike

Hi NM Trader,

I have the same problem... I've written a couple small scripts to try and identify the current price in decimals, the most recent price move in a swing, or anything that can help me get a grip on the type of moves that ZN makes.
These scripts aren't fully developed since the decimals aren't worked out and I'd rather see how much the current move is producing since the last swinghigh or swinglow.

anyway, if you modify this in someway to further your understanding, I hope it helps.
Kirk

Thanks BM and Zeller4. This has opened up yet another world (or is it another can of worms). It will take a some getting used to but in time.

Zeller4, I'll play around with the indicator and let you know if I have any suggestions or questions.

Something that I do, is to keep the gridlines active on my chart. In chart properties I have my gridline interval set to 4. This way I know that 1 tick = $15.625 and that 4 ticks = $62.5. (I kinda think in "ES" terms )

Also Sharky's spreadsheet idea works very good.

Good trading - Mick

I also apply "points" to the ZN in the same way I used to apply them to the ES, 4 ticks = 1 point. I've traded ES too long to not apply "points" to the other stuff

Just use the ticks. Nothing else matters as long as it is +.
