A shakeout has a very wide spread and a very high volume compared to the spread and volume of the Automatic Rally (AR). All the prices that go below the AR are testing the AR and supply. A spring above the support line is a failed spring. Wyckoff defines where theses tests occur in the trading range. When in Phase C the prices go below the support line on low or average volume there is first the spring and then the test of the spring. If the prices fall far below the support on high volume, then there is a shakeout followed by the test of the shakeout before prices re-enter the trading range. This type of rapid fall of prices on high volume induces fear into traders who are still holding onto long positions and the high volume shows that those traders are selling in panic of loosing their accounts.
Yea. That pretty much sums it up. I can understand the confusion, because there's been so many viewpoints on how to apply Wyckoff's method including those who are not only using VSA, but also the Weis Wave. I'm surprised that the Ord Volume hasn't caught on with traders; however, Al Brooks' books have been somewhat popular. They all have their valid foundations from the Wyckoff method and have valid viewpoints. Here are some previous posts in this thread that are relevent to what I'm doing.
