SPY vs ESU this morning

I do not usually watch SPY on an intraday basis. I suspect this is likely due to something having to do with expiration being today, but I am not sure. Why are SPY and ES so off, as far as the open location goes? SPY has been making new lows for a while now, and ES has not even gotten close yet. I'm sure there is a simple explanation, but I am very ignorant of stocks.
