Hi Guys,

I had a question regarding order fills with 2 particular futures.

I have been paper trading futures on Think or Swim with a live feed. Particularly the T-30 and T-10 futures.

I noticed that these futures will bounce a 3 tick price range for some time before moving on (30 mins or more at times). I was trading within this small bid ask spread on one tick moves. It was working well on paper but i realize that limit order fills are an issue.

How difficult do you think it would be to get limit orders filled with one contract?

Do you think it is possible to scalp one tick moves like this or would your orders probably never get filled?

I realize all the issues with commissions, taxes etc cutting in as well as the low risk reward ratio.

I simply was curious about order fills nothing more.

Thank you guys i appreciate your help.

Hi AC2000,

With your question regarding order fills they typically fill quicker on your TOS simulator or any simulator for that matter. In my opinion Ninja Trader simulator with data is the closest you're going to get to trading live in a simulator environment. Say for instance you’re going to pull a tick out of the ES and the price is 1670.25. If you're target is 1 tick@ 1670.50 typically you’ll have to wait until the price hits 2 ticks 1670.75 for your order to fill. Make sense?

Let me know if you have any questions.

Happy Trading!

Hi,

Thank you for your response. From what i gathering yea my strategy won't work. That's ok though.
I will stick to the basics, paper trading stocks and wait on futures for when i am more experienced.
