I was advised not to trade on Monday, due to the events happening in Egypt.

How are these events affecting the market?

also how will I know when it is "safe" to start trading again?

Is it EVER safe ?? that's what stops are for.. events can happen at any moment, 9/11/01 for example....our World is unstable and we have to accept that.. and protect ourselves...
Use your own judgement, look at market volatility and if it's uncomfortably high or moving erratically, wait until it's back to historical "normal" levels...

Ok what factors should I be evaluating besides the VIX, in order to assess whether its back to normal levels?

Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, who told you not to trade Monday?

ATR (average true range) on daily bars is something I watch as well as erratic (unexpected) behavior... When price movements don't make sense to me, I back away...
