Can TradeStation not do this? I used to use TS 10+ years ago, getting back into it now. But...

I was just told by my TradeStation salesperson that TradeStation still requires you to manually select an item from the RadarScreen or screened results, and then set it into an automated trading strategy to initiate it.

I was kind of hoping that I could automate that whole process ... of mining the market for strategy setups and automatically entering the trade and managing the trade.

For instance, 52-week breakouts. Why can't that be automated? Scan for 52-week breakouts, and when you find something, trade it. All automated.

The Tradestation scanner will not automatically feed into Radar Screen or a chart which is where your automated strategy must reside.

You can add the scan logic to your strategy. The strategy would be running on all instruments in Radar Screen.

I would not suggest this with the full universe of stocks, but you could pair down to a subset. Filtering out stocks you would not likely want to trade like low volume or stocks trading at a very low price.
