I am currently using mt4 demo account with FXCM but the spread [not sure if it is simply due to demo] is huge, especially when trying to enter on smaller time frames...who the current best forex brokers for being consistent with their data and pips, but also their spread size?

Try ProSpreads, they offering DMA functionality, they are good for intraday

For swing trading I use CMC Markets.

FXCM have just reduced their spreads and esp. if you're going to be using Ninja which optimises trading profitability vastly, I'm sure you'll find them really competitive.

For spread betting, both the spread + commission are inc. in the spread itself.

I'm about to open an account with them.
