I have the need for several large wall charts (approx 45"x20" and/or 40"x15") showing monthly OHLC commodity futures prices (CL & NG initially).

Rather than pay a lot of money for something that would probably already be out of date I was thinking that maybe I would make my own by utilizing a large format printer at a local shop.

Has anybody tried anything similar? Curious as to what quality/size digital image I would need in order to print something like this and for it still to look good enlarged like this. Also looking for recommendations for generating such image. I have all the price data but don't have any suitable charting software that could create something like that.

I would use Excel or something else that can generate vector graphics as opposed to 'printing' a screenshot of a charting package.

R could do it for sure.
