A friend is at the stage where he's studying daily data.
I thought it would be better for him use a package like SC if he can do that for free during this intial (reasonably long) stage. But from other posts on the forum I get the impression that SC won't do what he needs in free mode:
- access historical end of data (seems that he will have no access to SC historical data service)
- basic mas & a few indicators
- trend lines and annotation.
The biggy is that it seems that all data services are turned off in "free" mode. I don't want him to have to send emails every couple of weeks to extend a trial. Does anyone know if free mode will let him access any data services?
I get the impression he can get basic access and data for simulation for free with Ninja but didn't want to push him in that direction.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Ninjatrader provides EOD data on US equities for free through Kinetick. Ninjatrader is easy to use as well. I can understand there are many here that prefer SC and if it were not for another learning curve i might have switched as well some time ago. I think for the beginner, the free EOD data and the ability to play around with charts is pretty attractive.
If you are using a broker-provided free version of SC, it is not a full-function version and it may not include Historical data. You broker can answer questions about their offering.
Thanks Tom, I read and reread the docs trying to figure it out as I really didn't want him to start off with Ninja. I'll see if there's a decent web based service he can use while he's studying.
