I think it's only for applications that support it. I would imagine, for example, Sierra Chart does not. So the question becomes what it looks like without scaling, and that would be my concern.
My Surface Pro 3 for instance is a 14" screen, but with a 2160x1440 resolution. DPI scaling is obviously a major requirement here. I'm not sure with a 40" monitor.
by applications that support it, you mean from the windows store apps, or any old apps that can be installed from anywhere? if it is the case of 'any old app', i would think its on the apps to catch up. monitor companies wouldnt continue to keep two lines of monitors for this reason would they? totally serious questions if you guys with more experience in this area would like to enlighten a fellow.
dont believe anything you hear and only half of what you see
Yes it up to the apps. But in my case, I require Sierra Chart, and they are extremely 'old school' and won't be overhauling their interface anytime soon, I'd imagine. This setup is exclusively for trading, not gaming, not movie watching, so I have to be very careful with what I select -- especially considering there are no returns and much higher cost than just the "sale price", given my location.
Text an icon is a little bit smaller "-10%" than standard monitor, but that's relative.
There are several ways to look at monitor. If you have 2 monitors you know where to split windows. Now Every chart want to occupy most space .
There are no scaling.I have no trouble to read text, only if it's 4K on 28". And that is small and sharp text, but okay for visual charts.
My purpose is a lot of bars on screen, Not indicators. So I can see multi time frame at the same screen. I cant do that with 2 screen the same way. I look for structure big and small one. It will be difficult with 2 big screen side by side.
I use Windows 7 and a graphics card there can run 4x4K monitors through Displayport.
I have take a picture in front of Icons with some items and a fuld screen dump you can scale 100% on you own screen to se the size of things.
Thanks for the pictures. Since there is no scaling happening then Sierra Chart might actually work correctly, that is good news.
Could you take another photo a bit further back so I can see the entire monitor in relation to your keyboard (for scale)?
I'm trying to determine how two of these side-by-side would work. Would be 7680x2160 (16.58M pixels) with two of your 40". Compared to what I have right now which is 7680x1600 (12.28M pixels, three 30's).
I hadn't considered a 40" 4k monitor before this post. Usually when I see 4K it's talking about a more "normal" sized monitor, like a 28" or 30".
I can say that would be a complete waste for trading. That's because of the DPI scaling. Maybe in movies it would look good, similar to the "Retina" effect. But for charts, no, not really any benefit due to the necessary scaling.
But on a 40" if no scaling is needed, then it might be viable alternative to three 34" 21:9 aspect ratio I was considering. It's a tough call. Right now, my eyes are perfectly centered with the center of the monitor (eye level). If I swap in a 40" monitor, it is going to be quite a bit taller than what I have today. Have to do some measurements and see what kind of neck strain I might be looking at
so you are saying a 4k 30in would just make the chart data to scrunched together? also on the eye lvl thing. i have a manual adjusting desk, actually its a drafting table that my monitors are fixed to, but i have just made it a standing desk from the sitdown position and am currently looking down at the monitors. the top of my monitors are probably shoulder height right now.
