A 4K display on a 28" monitor, for example, would be impossibly small without DPI scaling. DPI scaling effectively makes everything bigger than it would otherwise be. So your 3840 resolution is now worthless with DPI scaling, it's not genuine usable real estate.
For watching a movie, sure, it means more pixels per inch so things look more vivid/crisper. But for charts with a couple of the most basic drawings on them? No.
As for the adjustable desk, cool idea. But I don't see how it would help. I expect the keyboard to be in a certain position, and the keyboard is on the top of my desk. I can't stand the "under the desk" keyboards that slide out. So I don't think an adjustable desk would work for me.
so even though the extra res will be useless on a smaller monitor one would still get the 4k monitor for the other advantages and just hope your app has scaling, correct? by the time i upgrade they might not even make anything less that 4k.
i dunno. i was reading somewhere that proper posture would have you looking down slightly at your monitors. for me, i have to be looking down at them or figure out how to raise the monitors a bit as i cant make the drafting table go any higher and it will become really wobbly. here is what im working with:

There is another thread on futures.io (formerly BMT) that was recently started about 4K trading monitors, you might try there. I'm not an expert in this area, but my experience with DPI scaling on Surface Pro 3 is like I already said. And if the app doesn't support it then it will be a miserable experience. And DPI scaling gains you absolutely nothing in terms of any advantage of having 4K resolution.
Seems like a great set up. The Philips 40" 4k is not available in the US yet in my brief search.
Is this a matte or glossy screen? Can you tell me also which video card you are using? Are you able to run at 60Hz refresh rate? Anything below 60 or 50 Hz is unacceptable to my preferences...

Graphics card is "NVIDIA NVS 510 (2GB)" low power consuming around 37 Watt. Not for 3D gaming. Check motherboard for right PCI express. NVIDIA NVS 510 for Quad DVI Low Profile
Monitor have more reflection than other standar monitors. If room don't have bright light it should not be a problem. I have set it to low power, so it use around 40 watt.
It's my strong opinion that three 34" side-to-side is way too wide of a viewing area, and two panels is awkward with the bezel joint dead-center. I've had a 76" wide array at one point (27's portrait+ 30 center), it was awful from ergonomic standpoint. Over time you'll stop using one of the monitors due to excessive rotation. Have you also considered the radiant heat issue? Most of the larger screens still put out considerably more watts per relevant real-estate. This market segment is slowly changing for the better. Heat is underestimated, as it drys and tires out the face after long trade/programming sessions.
Near my permanent residence, conveniently have a Microcenter. Allows me to continuously experiment with monitors, including a recent run in with the LG34UC97 (sharp unit, but the curvature is minimal, not great value for price).
For me, the best setup I've ever had for trading (10+yrs now) has ended up as follows, built 2 months ago, no particular budget :
(6) Dell 24" U2415 1920 x 1200 - IPS LED - Set to TEXT calibration setting (ideal for charts/doms) = 13 watts/panel
Ultra-narrow bezel width... 2mm very fine case trim, 4.5mm of unlit panel edge for a total effective bezel of only 6.5mm. When monitors are powered off, it looks like a seamless entity.
Ergotech Hex Stand - Allows me to get panels perfectly flush/level. Think seamless Samsung MD230x6 array (), but with much higher quality U2415 panels, narrower top&side bezels, and 60% of the original MD230x6 cost. I custom fit the base of a spare dual vertical Ergotron stand to this Ergotech to reduce the footprint of base, thus hiding base from view. The array looks as if it is hovering over the desk.
Power the panels with dual PNY NVS 510 miniDP ->DP
I have bottom panels set to 2" above desk surface, top edge of top row is 29.25". My eyes sit dead center in top row of panels, and I barely have to tilt down to look at bottom row. Wide viewing angle IPS makes this especially easy. Panels at finger tip distance, ~31."
Total array width from left to right edge is 57.25", on a desk that is 72" wide. Barely have to rotate more than a few degrees.
I understand you'd like to stay away from stacked arrays, but have you thoroughly vetted all the new ultranarrow bezel panels hitting the market? What about (5) 27" IPS in vertical portrait orientation, debezeled or narrow bezel, mounted to a single stand? Can you get your webinars to work on 1440 width? Ex setup,
I run two towers, one strictly for trading, other for everything else and backup to tower #1. Have a KVM switch to share the top center panel, keyboard & mouse between the two towers. Sitting in front of (6) 16:10 format ips screens netting out at only ~78watts, never felt so easy & looked so svelt.
