You really must set the time zone in the chart to the time zone of the symbol of the chart. Otherwise, you will never get the opening time correct for every day. There simply is no way around this at all.
Here is how NT7 handles the DST transition...I set up a custom session in NT7 8am to 4pm London time zone.
Assuming NT7 is displaying the correct time then for SC it looks like you can not use your data/service settings timezone for non-US based contracts during the DST transition period. You have to set the chart to the 'domicile' timezone of the contract and manually enter the session times.
The local time for ICE Europe is EST, because all contract specifications are EST. NinjaTrader comes with the correct session template ICE Europe, why don't you simply use it?
To display the London open, you do not need to put your chart into London time. The contractual sessions for Brent do not follow London time, and trying to set up a chart for Brent Crude will only cause confusion.
What you should to to identify the London open is simply to add an indicator, which will draw a vertical line at 8:00 AM GMT. Such an indicator can be coded within 5 minutes. But don't try to use a false session template. It will backfire on you.
By the way, isn't this thread a Sierra Chart thread?
I am tryin to determine if SierraChart will display the proper time information during the DST-BST rollover (those 3 weeks in March and the 1 week in Nov that you reference). Does NT7 handle those weeks correctly?
The other day I was looking at some "London open" information and realized we were in that DST-BST 3week time period and it made me question if Sierra was handling this correctly. As you can see it seems SC does not behave the same as NT in handling the DST-BST rollover.
Sorry to use Brent as the example...lets forget that...bad example...I am just trying to make sure Sierra will show the proper time during the DST-BST transition for non-US based or non-US timezoned futures.
I was hoping that you could shed some light on NT7 and how it handles the transition...does my NT7 example of 6E look correct to you? Is the Mar6 8am London open 1.1037? If you look at my first attachment you can see 2 SC is giving me 2 different open prices for Mar6 using similar time settings just different in how it handles the transition of DST.
I do not use Sierra Chart, but I think it will handle the transition correctly, if you apply it correctly. What session template did you use for NinjaTrader?
It seems the 'logic' for NT7 is different than SC...I have used NT7 in the past and have used your indicators and followed your 'session' advice. In using SC I was thinking the 'logic ' was the same but it doesn't seem that way(as shown by my attachments above)
2 questions for you since you understand NT7(understatement) and the way it handles the sessions etc:
1) does NT7 handle the transition of DST-BST during these weeks correctly across timezones if set up correctly?
-> Sunday, March 8, 2015 - Saturday, March 28, 2015 (3 weeks)
-> Sunday, October 25 - Saturday, October 31 (1 week)
2) does my NT7 example of 6E above look correct to you? Is the Mar6 8am London open 1.1037? It is the white chart embedded in the attachment. I am just using it as a reference to see how it handles the DST-BST issue. The black chart is SC. If I use the same logic but implement it differently in SC then my charts will not correctly show the right open.
Thanks for the help...sorry to drag ya into this thread...was just hoping you could shed some light on how NT7 handles this because I can use NT7 to check all my SierraChart Timezone settings....make sense?
Yes I know the session template is screwy and the chart looks bad...it is not the template I am validating it is the chart time I am looking at...I am just using those session times to see the 8am bar for simplicity...I would never use that template...I just chose the 8am bar (I could have used any bar for that matter) to see if SC handles the DST-BST transition correctly and to compare it to something that works correctly (NT7)...and that's why I wanted to see Mar6 since it is the last day before DST...
