Deaddogs view on the use of Indicators and Overlays.

I have been put on ignore by @Underexposed but would like to weigh in on this subject of indicators.

I my view indicators only tell you what the price has done. They’re just doing it in a different way. They’re manipulating price and volume data in some way to make it easier to look at, but it doesn’t necessarily manipulate the data in any way that gives you an advantage. All it is doing is altering it to make it more visually appealing.

The indicator doesn’t influence price movement. Price has to move before the indicator moves, so you might as well just watch price.


Study any indicator. Plot it yourself using the formula. Soon you will be able to tell where the indicator is going by what the price did during whatever time period you are using.

Indicators only tell you what price has done. They are not any more predictive than just watching what price is doing right now and going with the flow.
