How will the Federal reserve raising rates affect the markets?

Hey guys i have a question about what seems to be the hottest topic for traders. When or if the federal reserve raises the interest rate how will this affect the markets? Theoretically if the interest rate goes up will the equity markets start selling off ? Also how would it affect the trading volumes and retail traders participation. If somebody can also elaborate further what is theoretically deemed to happen to the FX markets, commodities and bonds ?
