Hey members,

as the title says, this is my first post and i am just another newby from Montreal trying to learn his way to successful trading.

I won't bore you with details of my life but I have some straightforward questions:

1. What to look for in a good trading platform? Any suggestions?
2. Top 3 essential trading books
3. Best ressource to learn trading terminology?
4. Best thing about trading is?
5. Worst thing about trading is?

Looking forward to reading you guys, and hopefully one day, I will be able to be in your position and help newbies onto NexusFi (formerly BMT).

Have a good day!

Does not matter so much, depends more on the trader.

2. Top 3 essential trading books
- Reminiscences of a Stock Operator
- Trading in the Zone
- Market Wizards

3. Best resource to learn trading terminology?
This site?

4. Best thing about trading is?
Making money

5. Worst thing about trading is?
Loosing money

I agree with you about one, although it requires a sound business model that suits your personality as well

Reminiscences is a fantastic resource I've had a copy for decades, I read a series of articles by The Phantom of the Pits on the net years ago this too was on the mark and a third one that stands out is one of the posters on here "tigertrader" some of his posts are worth a bit of extra study as well.

The resource that stood out for me regarding terminology was "The Essential Elements of Trading" by Robert P Rotella

The best thing about trading for a living, the lifestyle it affords, although I am not motivated by material possessions which sounds odd for someone who has generally focused on areas where the most money has been.lol

The worst thing is the fact that trading can become all consuming if you are not careful, I try hard to remember that my goal is to trade to live not live to trade, we only get one life make the most of it. And yes, I am very competent and successful as a trader and at enjoying life.

Cheers John

Do you want to system trade or discretionary trade? I think the answer to some of your questions might depend on this.

2- Market Wizards (I think this book qualifies for both trading styles)

3- I agree that this site should be enough. If you want to trade commodity futures, consider reading A Trader's First Book on Commodities by Carley Garner.

Also you might want to check out the thread below...

Good luck...
