But when I was an agency trader, I would rage on whichever service was late on significant news releases. I was paying significant $$ to bloomberg and reuters. I doubt a free service is really giving you breaking news.
There are numerous reasonably priced products out there: tradethenews.com and briefing.com are two that I've used in the past and both offer free trials.
Free?? Probably not. I use FlyOnTheWall, which can be had for $20/mo, if you pay by the year.
Peons like us are never going to get news first. The "fly" comes with an audio feed, and I can occasionally catch
a stock before a move on upgrade/downgrade. But not often.
I find it easily worth the 20 bucks, as I trade US equities. Can search for current news, which is what I find most useful.

Guys, for free realtime news you have a choice of Newsstrike ( | NewsStrike.com |) which is totally free but audio only or setting up a Twitter account and following people like Daily FX or Forexlive. You can then set up a free account on Tweetdeck using your Twitter login and password so you can see live feeds for the ones you follow.
The news from Newsstrike comes from a prop firm. You can see a demo of it on youtube, beats the news coming out of FF.
