exceeded the 20,000 point threshold already

This is likely a rudimentary question ,
but I am wondering why the Nikkei 225 has exceeded the 20,000 mark , while we're just now at that 20,000 point mark

Is it because other countries ( Japan's ) Currency isn't exactly equal to one US Dollar ?

So that if we did the math and made it apples to apples , that we would see that the Nikkei 225 has only reached say 12,000 Points, as the equivalence to " Our " Dow Jones ?

Just a question that struck me today

Thank you for the help

suko ,

What then , if we converted the Yen to the US dollar , what would the equivalency of the Nikkei 225 be then ....... in terms of the US Dow Jones ?

Thanks for your help

The ratio of NIKKEI volatility to SPY volatility a much more interesting question.

Currently 20.93 to 12.78

Well, if there is a spike in the VIX then there will doubtless be a spike in the Nikkei VI.

So, will the move in the Nikkei VI be overstated, as usual?
