On the cme quotes page i can see expiry for the underlying and for option. My question is can you have option expiring in june for underlying december futures contract? Or expiry is same for option and its underlying future?
Thanks Myrrdin,
Great lead.
I have just initiated contact with them and I really appreciate this advice.
I have been having trouble finding a appropriate broker.
This is an awesome forum.
I have just a couple of questions which I may post soon.
Much appreciated.
Mick

Unlike many other commodities there is very little point trading deferred Index Futures. The price of the deferred contracts is pretty much locked in at the price of the prompt contract plus the difference in dividend yield and holding cost.
Hi All,
I remember in this thread someone posted the SPAN data for ES from back 2008. I cannot seem to find it anymore, can anyone direct me to a post number on where this file is located? I am planning to backtest some strategy on 2008 crash.
That request was mine, when they said they couldn't do the full range, I asked for the first trading day of the month for each month within that range. Maddie was very helpful. I attach the files here.
She said there's an active project to …
Make sure you read the posts below it. You have to make a change to file name.
Or see Dudetooth's fix here. Again read posts after this post for fixes.
Unfortunately, my contact with Decarley Brokers did not go through and I can't seem to get to their website at present.
So, after searching this thread, I am still unclear about 1 thing.
Can Far OTM, sold options be exercised, and if so what happens.
I mean, if someone places an order to buy one and mine is selected, do I get assigned and given a live futures position.
After all, when I place a vertical spread on far OTM options, I'm buying one of them off someone aren't I?
What happens to their position then?
This is my one and only concern with selling options.
Thanks
Mick
But for other commodities it does make sense to have options expiring in June for underlying December futures contract. Eg. in corn the short-dated options for the CZ future (new corp) are quite popular.
Lets assume this option is quoting at $14 then the premium collected will be 14 x 5000 / 100 =$700. Is this correct? So you collecting more than the margin.
