Is there a thread anywhere that deals with simple PC optimization for NinjaTrader or any other software, without overclocking.

My intel Q6600 quad core does not seem to run a smooth as my old Athlon 2.4ghz.

And I am wondering for real time trading can i improve things?

Or how do I?

It seems graphics hardware is best kept to low, if i use the drivers with the graphics card is slows up the PC in realtime.

Is there any thing else i could do to enhance performance, Quad cores seem to be preferable, but maybe not for realtime trading? Backtesting is another issue

My problem is more specific, thinking about it. C# queues and SQL 2005. I rather suspect it is C# Queues that are causing the problem. although, it seems the issue is aroun7pm-9pm UK time, so it could be internet usage and getting data bursts from the IP.

As long as you have a decent mother board you can overclock your Q6600 to 3.0 GHz without any problems at all by doing the pin mod which adjusts the FSB speed. Quick fix, completely reversible and requires no BIOS changes; unless you are doing extreme computation, the stock cooling system should do fine.

When the PC skips it is very likely your hard-disk which is causing the problem; it is the slowest component. Also make sure you have enough RAM and consider getting an SSD.

I have 2GB's of RAM, also this only seems to happen late in the session.

Any tips to speed up the hard disk? or I would need a new faster one, there is no bios setting to change?
