Does anyone trade commodities based almost exclusively off of weekly/monthly reports? Is this a viable way to trade?

Monthly reports are included in my trading, but other fundamental information (eg. Seasonal charts, COT data, weather data) is included as well.

When are the key announcements? I know CL is Wed at 1030am ET, NG Thursday 1030am ET....what about Gold etc.

I do not know of any specific important report for Gold. The Gold price depends on several general reports regardings the economy: FED meetings, payroll readings, inflation readings etc.

The most important reports for grains are published by USDA / WASDE on a monthly base.

In case you are looking for a commodity with a high volatility: Have a look at the meat markets. There is the Quarterly Hogs Report and the monthly Live Cattle Report, both published by USDA.

You find the dates for these reports via Google.
