Hi guys,

I'm going to purchase data from Tick Data LLC. They have the option of Level 1 and trade data, or just the trade data for puchase, Level 1 and trade data being the more costly obviously. Is it best and or more cost effective in the long run to go with Level 1 and trade data? What have you guys done?

It depends on what are are using it for. Level 1 has all the inside quote updates, so if you are doing detailed analysis, or analysis on a product that frequently goes seconds/minutes without trading, or trying to compare assets, it’s useful to have all of the extra quote information. That way you can get the state of the inside market at any time of the day, not just snapshots when it trades. Also depending on what you are looking for, there is a thread on here where people share trade/tick data for the most popular products.
