true...I think what is being suggested is more than paint. The suggestion is structural in nature. Someone mentioned a change to the business model. that's a structural change and is again imo up to the owner of the forum to decide.
ok poke a hole in the analogy. rental property has feedback as well for things that aren't structural in nature. sorry i brough it up. said my peace and still don't understand the discussion. still makes no sense to even be having it. either accept the rules and business model that is in place or don't. if you can't live with them then you have the option to stop participating.
Mike, you are entitled to your opinion and I assume others here are also. That's what goes on in forums and perhaps something good comes out of this sort of dialogue. That's for the owner to decide, not us.
I guess ads are seen as sales, and I guess most of us don't like to be sold.
But, we bought our cars, houses, shoes, chose our platforms because we have visions in our dreams?
Seriously, we are sold daily, and the ads are the most awesome thing that could happen for a beginner in any field.
It allows him/her to choose amongst the many sources that are available there.
I am an advertiser here, and YES i know no one clicks on my ads.
The Elite guys don't even see that ads. But, it allows me to brand my name and hopefully earn my firm customers because of discussions that will start.
futures.io (formerly BMT) was chosen by me specifically for the following reasons:
1) The quality of discussions here
2) High Level of moderation
3) The expertise of the traders
So don't think us as advertiser just go to any place out there. We too have standards.
There are sites that get a lot more traffic, but I won't touch it because I think it's a place where the talk about trading attracts the wrong crowd.
Lastly, I suggest not to judge older forums on the net.
Some have hundred of thousands of threads, and attract everyone under then sun.
Sooner or later, there will just "talk", not technical, not insightful just talk.
I see it already happening here where people just share chit-chat, and as that grows, there will be times that forums would need to be cleaned out. it's the nature of forums.
But, this has nothing to do with advertising, as advertisers dont dictate content.
As far as threads "disappear" on Elite Trader, all I can say at times it's necessary.
I have seen threads develop into complete hate, and after all "cyber-bullies" love forums to take their aggression out.
Trading forums are different because we deal with money, so they tend to be a lot more cut throat than basket weaving forums LOL .
As for being biased to the advertisers, all I can say is that I don't judge.
Issues that are small or large and could be resolved easily turn into "hate-parades" with threads that would last pages upon pages. This is because Elite Trader has endless amount of members. By the way some are very capitalized, and truly are not small potatoes", that is why he has such massive amount of ads going. So $$ is a factor there.
The bottom line is that I trust Mike to evolve this site/forum to be of high quality because his positive track record speaks for itself.
At this thread shows, we are all humans with different opinions but let Mike choose what he wants to do with ads, revenue, etc. It's his! new comers that see big companies advertise also get a second look because there is a brand on the forums, so this could help us all.
We in the mean time should focus on proving the best content we can for the new comers and attract along the way other expertise.

This is too funny. I'm the one who started this thread. I'm a 72-year-old, technology-challenged, dufus who just didn't understand how the site worked. I was clicking on all of the pretty pictures on the homepage and getting the "Elite Membership Required" message. I am unfamiliar with the "forum" format and didn't know how to access the free posts, which obviously make up the majority of content here. I've since figured it out (at least I think so). My original question was obviously uninformed and misunderstood. Now that I know how to access the conversations between traders, I'm enjoying the site immensely. My thanks to Mike for making this possible.
This is why I love BigMike's. There was a difference of opinion that turned into an agreement to disagree and a handshake. No escalation to a place it shouldn't have gone.
