I am not sure why you say a thief was revered. They sold off his assets to pay people he swindled. What's wrong with that?

Would those who paid ridiculous prices for old shoes had done so if the wearer was not a celebrity thief?

In the absence of an auction for a trophy to hang on the wall like a deer head, would those purchasers donated money to the victims for NOTHING in return, let alone old shoes worn by a world class robber?
