GC TRADERS ....I understand that GC supposedly rolls every 2 months, but I have only seen tradable volume in the December contract since July.
Is that common?

yes, for us retail-traders GC rolls each 2 month, but there are also contracts between (not for us retail-traders) but there is one exception, Gold rolls from August to December. I never could find out why nobody is interested in trading the October contract.
