and they cannot find it today! How is this possible? The money has left my account and never showed up there? I have emailed their funding guy but this is not right...

AMP can't find something if they actually haven't received it/received it yet.
You need to be investigating from the sender's end of the trail. The money was sent from your bank, you contact them and ask them to trace it.
It is standard practice when an electronic payment doesn't arrive.

Assuming you used the Fed wire, your bank will have a confirmation from the Fed and there will be an identifying number (I forget what it's called now, but there is one.) If the Fed says it arrived at bank "x" on date/time "y", with "z" set of instructions, then it did. Then AMP's treasury department will be able to take that information and have their bank tell them what they did with it. If their bank credited it to their account, then AMP will be able to find it.
Any issues are almost always related to identifying the receiving account at the receiving bank (which would be AMP's account), and then any further instructions to credit their (AMP's) internal account number such-and-such in the name of their client.
Wires don't usually have problems, but they are always solvable, and quickly. If you start the ball rolling with your bank, you should have it resolved soon.
